Psalm 150: Praise
"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord." (v.6)What do you think of when you hear the word “praise?” The dictionary defines praise as–
“An expression of approval or admiration for someone or something. Praise is an action.”
We find in the Bible that praise is used as an expression of joy and gratitude. In Psalm 150, the word “praise” is included thirteen times. That’s an abundance of praise!
The Psalmist sets the scene in the first verse of Psalm 150. We are to praise God is in his sanctuary. The sanctuary most likely referred to is the Temple of Jerusalem. The mighty heavens refer to the sky. The message to us in the first verse is clear. God is to be praised everywhere.
In the second verse, we are given two reasons for which we can give God our praise. He is worthy of our praise for His acts of power and His surpassing greatness. God’s power can be seen in the beauty of His creation. God’s greatness is revealed in His unconditional love for us. The power and greatness of God can be seen in the person of Christ Jesus who died for the sins of the world and was resurrected from the grave.
Today’s reality is that we are all navigating life differently. With all the uncertainty in the world today, it is understandable to not want any part of praise. An unspoken feeling has set in for many and our attention may be diverted. Praise? Seriously?
Yes! Philippians 4:6 says–
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Praise is our right as children of God. If you have faith in God and believe in His Word, then you have every reason to Praise His name. God is present and loves you. He hears us when we cry out to Him. He is our Provider and Protector.
There are many ways and reasons to offer our praise to God. We are to Praise God everywhere and in everything that we do. Praise the Lord!
